Excerpt:

We are dealing with two heroes that have in common not only this element, but also the peculiar fact of belonging to two “cultural minorities”, the United States Jewish and Chinese minority. Besides, both Roth and Amy Tan build their speeches based on asserting a “cultural remembrance”. This means that we can distinguish in both of them a differentiation between the “individual memory”, on the one hand, and the “generational memory”, on the other hand.
