Abstract

This article is the first part of a larger essay that advances a general theory of translation. It starts from the argument that we are all translators (even self-translators) and we are all translated throughout our lives. The paper offers an analysis of the state of the field of translation studies under the conditions of irrepresibile globalization and techonolgical and media revolution. Nowadays “Translational Turn” is discussed taking into account the convergence between the implicitly colonizing trend of American language and culture and self-colonizing aspirations of  “small” languages and cultures in quest for international recognition.
